Oltas application: How to check Oltas challan status enquiry

OLTAS (Online Tax Accounting System) is an initiative of the Income Tax Department to capture and maintain records of tax paid through banks through online upload of challan details.

What is the OLTAS Application?

OLTAS stands for Online Tax Accounting System. It is a system designed by CBDT for online collection, accounting and reporting of payments and receipts of direct taxes from taxpayers through a wide network of bank branches.

How to Check the Oltas Challan Status Enquiry

Here you can check the oltas challan status enquire for Tax Payers and Banks.

1. Challan Status Enquiry for Tax Payers:

Using this facility, taxpayers can track the status of their challans deposited in banks online. It provides two types of search.

a) CIN-based view :

On entering the Challan Identification Number (CIN i.e. BSR Code of the Collecting Branch, Challan Tender Date and Challan Serial Number) and Amount (Optional), the taxpayer can view the following details:

  • BSR Code
  • Date of Deposit
  • Challan Serial Number
  • Major Head Code with description
  • TAN/PAN
  • Name of Tax Payer
  • Received by TIN on (i.e. date of receipt by TIN)
  • Confirmation that the amount entered is correct (if amount is entered)

b) TAN-based view :

By providing the TAN and Challan tender date range for a particular financial year, the taxpayer can view the following details:

  • CIN
  • Major Head Code with description
  • Minor Head Code
  • Nature of Payment

If the taxpayer enters the amount against a CIN, the system will confirm whether it matches with the details of the amount uploaded by the bank.

2. Challan Status Enquiry for Banks

Using this facility, tax collecting branches and nodal branches can track the status of their challans deposited with banks online:

a) Collecting Bank Branch :

Branch Scroll Date and Major Heading Code – By providing the details, the Tax Collection Branch can access the total amount and a total number of invoices for each major head code. In addition, the collecting branch can view the following details:

  • Challan Serial Number
  • Challan Tender Date
  • PAN/TAN
  • Name of Taxpayer
  • Amount
  • Date of receipt by TIN

b) Nodal Bank Branch :

By providing the nodal scroll date and major head code details, the nodal branch can view the following details:

  • Nodal Branch Scroll Number
  • Scroll Date
  • Major Head Code – Description
  • Total Amount
  • Number of Branches
  • Number of Challans

Further, for each nodal branch scroll number, the following information can be obtained:

  • BSR Code
  • Branch Scroll Number
  • Branch Scroll Date
  • Total Amount
  • Number of Challans
  • Date of receipt by TIN

Step to Check the Oltas challan status enquiry

  • First of all, you need to visit the official website – https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/index.html
  • Select either CIN (Challan Identification Number) based view or TAN-based view
  • Fill in the required details to view the status
  • Tax deductors can also download the challan detail file for the selected period through TAN based view, which will be used to verify the challan entries filled in the e-TDS/TCS details.
